classroom management plan
High School Science
My Philosophy
- To facilitate learning & create a classroom environment that aids my students in developing a love for science
- My students should be intrinsically motivated
- Influenced by Thomas Gordon’s theories—When students take ownership of their problems/misbehaviors, they become responsible for the resolution. This teaches self-discipline
Room Arrangement
- Students are seated at large rectangular tables to facilitate cooperative learning
- Cooperative learning promotes student involvement & engagement
- When students learn from both their teacher & their peers, they arrive at a deeper understanding of what they are learning
Rules & Expectations
- I would have a Classroom Constitution, like a CMCD classroom
- I view my students as “partners & stakeholders” in the classroom
- If students choose to break a rule, they choose to receive their consequence
- Consequences should be as reasonable & as natural as possible
Procedures & Routines
- Have many procedures in place to keep my classroom running smoothly & prevent problems from erupting in the first place
- Procedures must be demonstrated & rehearsed several times to ensure they are understood
Diversity in the Classroom
- Avoid stereotypes—do not expect all members of a particular group to act the same way
- Do frequent cooperative learning activities to bring people of diverse backgrounds together, allowing them to better understand each other & eventually become more accepting of their differences
Student Roles & Building a Community
- My students would have various jobs, like you would see in CMCD
- Jobs build a sense of self-worth & create leaders.
- Leaders are responsible citizens that have the capacity to self-discipline themselves
